  • Are You Taking Full Advantage of the Conferences You Speak At?

    July 25, 2018
  • Do you speak at conferences?  If so, do you stay after you have spoken, or do you leave when you are done or arrive just as you are due to speak?

If you do you could be missing out!

Generally, if you are speaking at a conference then you are quite likely to speak to your target market in some way or another.

Recently, I spoke at a conference and I had the option to attend the entire day which I took advantage of and I am so glad I did. This experience had me thinking if others did this as well.

As I took advantage to sit in other sessions, I thought to myself not only am I learning more about the industry I am speaking for, but I also get the opportunity to network with others as well, this is invaluable.

So, why would you stay at a conference all day?  Maybe you think it may be a waste of time and you have better things to do.  However, the way I see it, if you are speaking to your target market why wouldn’t you stay?

If I haven’t convinced you yet, here are some reasons why you should stay:

    • You have more time to build a relationship with the event organisers, so they refer you to other events or better still ask you back for the next conference
    • You may get a chance to introduce yourself to other attendees. Depending on the other sessions at the conference, they may ask everyone attending to introduce themselves, so you may get the opportunity for even more exposure to a greater audience advertising your services or products.
    • You may learn something. You never know, speaking with other attendees or other speakers you may learn something that you could use in future presentations.  You never know what you might find out.
    • You can take what you learned back to your tribe. You could use what you learned at the conference for videos or blogs to provide to your current followers.
    • If you get an opportunity you can network with other attendees in break times. This could open other opportunities for you to speak for organisations they are involved in or just to offer the one on one advice in your field.
    • If you can, then bring a team member with you as this will expand the networking opportunities as they can talk to either of you rather than just waiting for you to be available.

Overall, I feel that having the opportunity to attend the entire event if you have the time and means to do so can be a huge benefit to you and your business.

You never know what it may bring you in the future.

So, the next time you are presenting at a conference think about staying for the entire day.  Your business may thank you for it.
